Apps for iPad - Popular Science

It’s an amazing new vision for magazines that goes far beyond the printed page. Popular Science been completely reimagined for iPad, so everything about this magazine app comes to life with a touch of a finger. Photos are more vibrant on the large, high-resolution display. Stories are even more immersive. And each issue is more fun to explore in all-new ways. With a tap, text disappears so you can focus on the amazing images. To dive into a story, just tap again and the text reappears. Tap around to jump between sections and swipe through pages in portrait or landscape. You can download issues to your iPad and keep them as long as you want — and even keep back issues in a library.

Playing Games on the iPad… with 11 Fingers

If you’re an avid iPhone gamer and you’re considering an iPad, here’s one reason why it’s better for gaming: more points of contact.

Popular game Plants vs. Zombies, for example, has five points of contacts on the iPhone version, which means that you can simultaneously play with five fingers — more than enough for iPhone’s small screen. The iPad’s screen, however, can accommodate more points of contact, allowing users to play Plants vs. Zombies in pairs with 11 points of contact.

It’s a neat little improvement that can make a huge difference, especially if you have a kid who can’t wait to take his or her turn on the device. To see how this works in practice, check out the video below.
